BUNKER HILLS REGIONAL PARK REDEVELOPMENT
Road, Parking Lots and Trail Reconstruction
The County has plans to redevelop the roads, parking lots, and trails throughout the Bunker Hills Regional Park over the next several years. The Department hired Larson Engineering to design and engineer improvements to the roads and trails in the park. Construction is expected to begin in 2025 and will be on-going for several years to address all the pavement replacement needs.
Phase one of construction will include Parkway A (main park road), B (campground road), and C (picnic area road) with associated parking lots. It will also include trails in poor condition, including the boardwalk at Bunker Lake. Design and engineering are underway. Construction is expected to occur in 2025-2026.
Phase two includes improvements for ADA building and restrooms, the auxiliary maintenance shop, and other buildings where needed. The playground near the picnic area will also be proposed for reconstruction. Design and engineering is expected to occur in 2025 with construction in 2026.
Phase three will include the reconstruction of Parkway D (Activities Center and Stables Road), 133rd Avenue (Archery/Compost Road), the associated parking lots, new trail construction, and trail reconstruction. Design and engineering for this portion of the redevelopment is expected to occur in 2026 and be constructed in 2027-2028.
Timelines may vary depending on funding availability.
Water and Sewer Construction Project
Bunker Hills Regional Park is currently served by aging wells and septic systems. Due to the aging infrastructure, the Department requested and is receiving funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to connect Bunker Beach, the campground, and the auxiliary maintenance shop to City of Coon Rapids water and sewer services.
Construction will continue through the fall/winter as conditions allow and will pick back up in the spring of 2025. Final completion of the project will be in the spring/summer of 2025. If you have additional questions about the project, please contact the Parks Department at 763-324-3000.
